October 12, 2002 - Interview with Bowling Press Pro October 12th, 2002: BPP: You are going to Japan! Why?
ALETA: "We have been offered the opportunity to coach at our U.S. Naval Bases there, for our own troops and their families."
BPP: How did this come about?
ALETA: "We received an email at the website from a liaison for the U.S. Armed Forces who wanted bowling coaches to tour the Naval Bases.
BPP: Have you been to Japan before?
ALETA: " Yes I have. I have been there 7 times. And I enjoyed my trips, each and every time."
MICHELLE: "No. But it is so ironic. PWBA Bowlers over the years have been invited and I have not been as fortunate to be among those included. And I am the bowler on tour who loves SUSHI! Name a city I've been to and I could pretty much find a sushi bar in the area. So to say that my dream has been to have Sushi in Japan would be an understatement. To get the opportunity to go there, through coaching, is wonderful. It is like a dream comes true by being true to what you love."
BPP: Do you like sushi, Aleta?
ALETA: "Yes, I like it, but I do not think I like it as much as Michelle. But, Michelle got me to try it, and I really do like it. I will look forward to trying it Japan. I never had it when I was there. I think it would be cool to try it in Japan."
BPP: Aleta, what is it like to be there for your bowling, and to go back again, based on your coaching experience?
ALETA: "I think that I am very proud of that accomplishment. I have worked hard at learning the game and can't wait to go share it with bowlers. I think it is great that someone thinks enough of our coaching to want to bring it over to Japan."
BPP: What will the trip consist of?
ALETA: "We will be arriving a day in advance to get a chance to acclimate. Then, we will coach in Sasebo. From there, we will fly the next morning to Tokyo, arriving in time to coach that afternoon in Atsugi. The next day, we will be driven to Yokosuka to coach in the afternoon. Resting for a day, we will end up in Okinawa a whole day later. Our plan is to take a day to get off base, in Japan. That will be nice to do, if we are not too tired!"
BPP: Sounds like hard work. Are you ready and looking forward to it?
ALETA: "Yes I am. I love to busy and I love to coach and be on the lanes and help people. I always look forward to seeing bowlers improve."
MICHELLE: "Yeah. It's a wonderful opportunity. We have had to update our passports, which we just received in the mail. Both of us are not looking forward to the long flights and the travel part of it; but we are looking forward to helping bowlers on the other side of the world. We just love to coach. To be asked to do this is an honor. We love to help bowlers and that is what they are asking us to do. For it to involve our own troops, especially at this time, is our privilege."
BPP: Wow. Sounds like a great opportunity.
